I'm a textile designer, artist, and newest member of the artisan pottery company, Dodge Staion Pottery. This is my place to share with you the daily inspirations, art projects, and skillful crafts that are created by our hands in the shop. Thanks for stopping by! You can read all about how I got here -to this blog- below...

Growing up we were a creative bunch. My brother, sister and I would always run around and play in the shop - we even got to draw on the walls! Dad was always throwing pots and mom was out there decorating them and firing kilns. We always traveled around to art shows on the weekends and made it into a camping adventure. KidsWe spent outside in summers playing with neighborhood friends in the forest, the creek, at the backyard campfire. We weren't rich but we always had fun-there was always some project going on, always someone making with their hands. It never occured to any of us kids that this was special or unique, we probably just thought every kids' parents had a pottery shop.

I grew up and went to college for Textile and Apparel design-'Hey that's Art right?' I thought. I didn't want to just be an art major and be an art teacher like my dad-good lord no! (That makes me laugh now because I don't think there could be a more rewarding job than helping kids learn and dream everyday!) Turns out it was a good defult because I fell in love with textile and print design. I probably learned a lot inherently growing up with my mom being one of the most talented fiber artists I've ever met. I ended up finishing my college career with a degree from UW-Madison and another from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY for Textile and Surface Design.

I was lucky enough to have a successful career in Home Fashion Design. I designed for many major retailers such as Lands' End, Sears, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Ralph Lauren, to name a few. I mostly developed bedding and pillows, but also dabbled in tabletop, home decor, and linens. Besides researching trends, I designed prints, created color palettes, and worked with factories to produce the product. I was sent on trips to Paris, London, and Germany to shop for trends and attend trade shows. It might have been somewhere along one of these trips where I realized there's a product back home that's just as beautiful, if not more so, than the ones in the high end European stores.

It was then that I decided to come home and join the family business, Dodge Station Pottery. I wanted to show the world not only the beautiful pottery that was crafted, but the rewarding lifestyle that comes with working with your hands everyday. So this is my place to share the the things that inspire me as I experience life as an artisan and create things in the pottery shop along side the people who've done it all along. My hopes are to inspire others and meet some good friends along the way. Thanks for stopping by!
